What is wrong with using school to learn and have parties at home?

Is this any worse than a very religious person seeking to ban certain books?

Now on many issues I am very liberal and on some I take a conservative view but I could care less if a school does or does not have Halloween parties. I would not blame it on being progressive though.

I think my crazy conservative Christian friends who think Halloween is evil and should not be celebrated would laugh at being called Progressive Liberals.

Far be it for me to quote anything Duggar, but here is an article explaining it. This is not a "liberal only" thing.

Duggar Family Refuses to Celebrate Halloween; Relates Holiday to Demonic Realm

Halloween is not a holiday it's like Valentine's day. It should be an optional event at the school, some parents might want their kids to enjoy but it's up to the school to decide.

I don't like Halloween because some kids use it as an excuse to cause mischief and becomes a safety issue.

Well, that's another minute or two of my life that was wasted and I will never be able to regain.
But, if nothing else, at least this thread gives me another forum member's name to add to my "ignore" list.
As they say when you are exiting the plane, Buh-bye va_bank.

Halloween is not celebrated in most parts of the world. Around here many of the Asian families will turn out the lights or put of signs that they DON'T want costumed visitors.

Nixing celebrations at school and keeping it a choice at home is for the best.

Are you kidding? You know most private workplaces celebrate Halloween right? Do you really think kids are going to sit and do busy work knowing that other schools are allowing kids to dress up? Pretty heartless if you ask me.

No, in my experience working for companies big and small Halloween is when some workers leave early to take their kids out. If your job celebrates it then good for you, just about every corporate job do not.

I don't understand the big deal.

Let kids dress up as their alter-egos for an hour and have fun - even at school. It's not like elementary aged school children are taking AP classes that are interrupted with a parade or a little party.

I don't know the source the 101.5 FM on-air personalities were getting their info from this afternoon, but according to them less than 20% of parents in this particular school had an issue.

Make up of Seth Boyden Elementary in 2014:

African American: 300

White: 164

Asian: 7

Hispanic: 38

American Indian: 1

Two or More Races: 21

Grand total: 531

Anyone who I have ever known to be opposed to Halloween had the same reasons Tahiti mentioned. One got "booed" (Music City Moms | New Moms Nashville Mom Group) and freaked out. Tossed the booty left at her doorstep and refused to play along. The idea perpetuated evil…yet she and her husband drank like fish and that was a big no-no in their religion b/c when you let your defenses down (through alcohol or any other mind-altering drug), the devil can take over your mind/body/soul and make you do "bad things". Until you sober up.

But letting your kids dress up in a costume and get "free" candy while hanging out with their friends? That's evil.

To me? The issue is more of one where the vocal minority gets their way AGAIN and "political correctness" (to coddle the whiners) steps in and ruins it for the majority.

What's next?
