Hey all,

Not sure if anyone lives here or has any experience but I wanted to get ideas on what is happening.

My township charges $94 a quarter for 7,000 gallons of water. After that it is like $7 per 1,000 and over 20,000 it moves to $8.xx per 1,000.

Here is where it gets a bit shady.

They will estimate your usage (for me when I moved in, they were estimating me at like 800 gallons.)

Here is what they do:

They estimate your bill at say 5,000 gallons during the 1st quarter. On the next bill, lets say they take an actual read. The usage is say 9,000. So what they do is they charge you for the extra 2,000 gallons, even though you were under the previous quarter.

Here is where it gets fun. They were estimating me at like 800 gallons for like 4 quarters. They then hit me with a huge bill at the end when I demanded they take an actual read.

So the bill was for 40,000 gallons. They would charge me on say 37,000 on overages. I actually argued with them and told them I should be allowed the 7,000 per quarter, bringing the overages down to 12,000 gallons:

40,000 - 3,000 - 25,000 = 12,000 in actual overage.

So imagine them doing this to pretty much everyone in the town who never looks at their bill and just pays this.

Something fishy going on here?

I don't get this (or your math, honestly) , maybe because my company takes readings every quarter and bills on actual usage.

The problem is them estimating bills. We do not always get actual reads. But if I am paying $94 a quarter for 7,000 gallons they should estimate me at 7,000 not 500.
