Hi all, I'm new to NJ and will be undertaking a weekly drive from Rutherford, NJ to Flushing, Queens. Anyone have any advice on which route to take? Shortest drive VS least amount of tolls. Also, what time of day would be best? I'm flexible and can leave Rutherford Sat morning or noon or later, returning either Saturday night or Sunday morning. Thanks in advance!

As far as tolls, I did a similar ride decades ago and if you go a certain way or 2 you can do it with only paying one single toll for the entire round trip.

Basically you will have to pay a toll crossing from NJ to NYC but then the return trip is already paid. If you take a toll crossing from NYC to LI which is Queen or Brooklyn, etc you could pay each way there but you don't have to since there are several toll free bridges.

You can set EeeeeEvil Racist Google Maps to avoid tolls and onw way they send you is :

Thats ok but most of the time I would cut across Manhattan and either take the Willy or the 59'er across the east River, Willy B being my usual route.

This should be the Lincoln to the 59'er route, prob shortest toll free one :

Actually least toll since you always pay the one toll over the Hudson River,,,

Many variations on that, I would most often take the Holland Hole In The Wall rather than the Lincoln and go right over the Willy B. Also some more shortcuts avail like if you take the 59'er you come down straight to the LIE, etc.

You take Rte 17 North to Rte 4 East to GWB to Major Deegan South to Triboro Bridge to Grand Central Parkway to Northern Blvd, and take right onto Main Street.

17 to US46 to the Gee Dub and Triboro,,, still involves a toll at the Triboro but slightly shorter tham 17 to 4,,, or you can take I-80 but 46 often has a quicker ride in, less cross country traffic,,,
