I may need to hire a real estate agent who is familiar with the tax appeal process to serve as a witness at a appeal hearing.
Sussex county, N.J.
Can anyone help me out with any info on this?

We're in the same situation. The re-evaluation process in this state is as corrupt as the rest of the state.

why do you need a witness? i'm appealing too once my neighbor pulls the comps and I'm bringing that along with other facts about my property - no witness.

An appraiser might be able to help you too in court.

I am applealing too. My biggest problem is they are allowed a 15% margin of error. So not only do you have to prove your property is over valued, it has to be over by 15% or they don't have to reduce it.

i'm not sure if that's the case here, but i'll ask. thanks for the tip! 15% doesn't *sound* like a lot - but it is!

damn.....my neighbor successfully appealed and got her assessed value reduced about $30-40K, i find it hard to believe she was able to prove 15%, but I guess she did. the comps for me are running about 10% below.
