Time to take out that loan for me, too. (I hope not!)

Putting ads on Craigslist, or in online papers (not sure if Wyckoff has one, but try the surrounding areas, if not)...might help, too.
Yeah, it is ridiculous how expensive it is to live at a motel.

Find something on craigslist instead.

I will try to send some mails out tomorrow, asking if I can reservate the specific room for one month doing the summer break. Hopefully I will be able to find some place without a roommate required.

I'm not familiar with that area of NJ but you might see what colleges are nearby and contact them. Sometimes people in college towns rent rooms during the year to students (my mom did it - we lived close to Seton Hall in South Orange). Since most students leave for the summer you might get lucky and find someone who will rent for just a couple of months.

Good luck.

Monmouth University in West Long Branch may have rooms, or be able to direct you to some place where students rent short-term and cheaply. It is located about a mile from the ocean, if that. Very close.

Another possibility -- unlikely as it is (the few people leaving the area in summer would probably prefer to rent out their places for as much money as they can get) -- would be to find a house-sitting position for the time you're visiting. Just feed the cat and water the houseplants! Craig's List may have some.
