We might be relocating from NYC for a job. We love living in Manhattan and raising our son (& dog!) here, but this might be a professional opportunity that we just wouldn't want to turn down. We've been considering the Princeton area (where the job would be) or Buck's County (more specifically New Hope or Newtown). We have been partial to PA because we've spent more time there and have family there. However, our minds are still wide open. We are interested in a good school district with a real/endearing downtown area with as many restaurants (of as many cuisines-not necessarily fancy, just yummy), stores, bars, coffee shops, supermarkets, theaters, etc as possible. If there's a dog run nearby, that would just be icing in the cake. House-wise, we'd like 3-4 bedroom with a yard, maybe even a pool, and could probably go up to low $800s altho we'd like to stay in the $700s if possible. Which area would you think would work best for us?
Property taxes and income taxes are generally lower in PA over NJ. I grew up in Lower Makefield Township (just outside of Yardley, PA) so I'll put in a plug for that area, as well. Yardley Borough is a cute little town and Lower Makefield has grown considerably since my parents moved there 39 years ago. If your son attends public school, he'd attend schools in the Pennsbury School District. Newtown is a also good option for commuting to the Princeton area; the public schools are in the Council Rock district. Both Pennsbury & Council Rock are good districts. The areas of Yardley, Lower Makefield and Newtown have easy access to I-95 and can easily connect to Route 1 and Princeton. New Hope isn't very easy to commute to Princeton. Good luck!
I would stay as close to your job as possible (if you are going into the office every day)
Bucks is nice, but I would watch the commute time very carefully and make sure you test it out during actual rush hour, not the weekends
I'm guessing the OP has found a place to live by now, post originated in 2012!
