It is so peaceful. You should make a day trip to Asbury Park one day, even in the winter. Check out the boardwalk and Convention Hall (it should be open). It's becoming increasingly popular in the summer, pretty trendy and has been compared to the NJ equivalent of Brooklyn , but its actually one of my favorite beach towns and has been since a little before it resurge in popularity. It's unique and maintains a lot of history, you can tell the place has been through a lot of ups and downs, from beautiful old buildings like Convention Hall and icons like the Stone Pony to run down apartments or homes vs. the new oceanfront hotel and apartments they're building, the new Asbury Hotel, newer construction condos a block from the beach.

Don't forget Ocean Grove ,just keep walking down the boards and you will see an amazing place all so with tremendous history.

Lots of character. Madame Marie's, that Bruce Springsteen refers to in his song 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy), is still there on the boardwalk. Not sure if you're a Bruce fan but anyone who knows the song would know.

Yes, Ocean Grove is also nice, lots of pretty old Victorians, right down the boardwalk/street.
