Whenever I say the words "New Jersey", the upper half of my body shivers. The tolls are frenetic and are about to get worse.
Is there anything good here? I'm talking about Jersey City and Newark of course. The other counties have too high taxes for such a dump.
Is New Jersey just a sh*ttier version of long island? I know long island has nice beaches on the north side with those bluffs, CT doesn't but it does have access to water, but New Jersey... what do I get to see? Wasteland?
jersey city and newark are the more desirable places in nj according to you?
Ha, I noticed that too! That's like saying that when you think of NY, only Brownsville and Yonkers matter since everywhere else is too expensive...
I also laugh when people whine about property taxes but ignore other things. I have a friend at the office who won't move from NYC to Westchester because of the property taxes, even though the NYC resident income tax is twice what she'd pay in property taxes. And then the cost of housing...
Honestly I can't think of a way that NJ loses in any battle, unless you're comparing NJ's worst (Newark) against NY's best (pick one). Traffic, cost of living, air quality- it's all there. The job market may not be as strong as central Manhattan, but it's definitely at least as good, if not better, than Long Island or Westchester.

NJ is a great place to live. We have moderate weather, NYC, the beaches, the mountains. Lots of stuff to do. Good public schools.
Yes, but if somebody is a chronic malcontent, he/she will likely find many things to carp about, no matter where they live. Note to the OP:The Geographic Cure rarely works if you are a chronically unhappy person.

What do you consider wasteland?
I drive east ten minutes, I'm at the beach. I drive west ten minutes, I'm going through horse farms and apple and peach orchards. I've got an hour and 15 minute train ride north to Penn Station. South, more beaches, pine forests, and more farmland. Wasteland? Our definitions may vary.
Here all this time, I thought Long Island was a crappier version of New Jersey, except maybe way out east in Suffolk County. And we're not stuck on an island should any disaster occur. Bonus.

Any time that I have (briefly) contemplated moving to Long Island, I have--luckily--realized that going anywhere from LI entails first driving an hour--or more--in order to get off of that congested island.
And then... there are the tolls that one must pay for the privilege of leaving Lawn Guyland in order to go... anywhere else.
