I rode the NJ Coastline towards NYC in the morning on Sat, it was a smelly mess. Every car had someone stretching like it's their own home sofa. The smell is also nasty, a blend of pot, urine, and fecal.

As I walk down each train with my family, we couldn't find anywhere hygienic to sit. Most people and families bunched up in cleaner cars.

This is all too reminiscent of NYC subways.

A taste of NYC for the people who must live within an hour of NYC.

Simple solution to address the perceived problem...more taxpayer money. Problem solved!

Maybe we should blame Murphy, since he took office I haven't seen anyone being escorted off the NJ transit trains. I used to see once a week someone is escorted off at Newark. Now, they either don't bother or asked not to enforce it.

I live 10 miles from NYC and I have not set foot anywhere in the city in nearly 4 years. I'll add this to my list of reasons why I don't go.

That's pretty impressive. There's nothing that interests you that has brought you to NYC? A concert? Sporting event? Museum? Broadway show? The Bronx Zoo?

I didn't smell any urine, but I have taken the train in on a Saturday a few times this past year, earlier and later in the day, and yes, I've noticed the downward spiral. The Saturday crowd was always noisier, partly because it was often families going into the city for the day, but now there's a different vibe among the ridership. Cursing people, people who loudly play videos, an increase in people who act surprised that they are expected to have an actual ticket for the correct destination and having paid the correct amount to get to where they are going.

Yes, people smoking tobacco and weed both. I don't see them smoking, but I can smell it.

Those are likely to be the same people I encounter at the supermarket, and in retail stores, who never seem to be prepared to pay for their purchase. When the total is announced, then they begin to...
open their pocketbook...
root through the pocketbook for their wallet and/or change purse...
take an inordinately long amount of time deciding how to pay for their purchase...
and, if they are paying with cash, will take an incredible amount of time looking for that last penny.
If they are paying with a personal check, the words that come to mind are, Abandon all hope...

Thank God for self-checkouts!
