I lived in NY all my life and I am looking to move to NJ. I looked on google maps for areas closet to NYC and I found Jersey City, Union city, Hoboken, and I think Kearny. But it's hard to tell by looking at the map! Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated!!
PS: I am looking to rent a 1 BDRM $900 Max. I would need to be by Columbus Circle/W59th st by 8am.
Hoboken, JC, and Weehawkin are probably the closest. Rents are rather pricey in those areas though. There's no way you'll find a 1 bedroom for 900 in Hoboken. Same goes for the nicer areas of JC.
You may be able to find something in Union City or the Heights area of JC.
Look into Kearny & Harrison...you should be able to find a 1br for 900
Harrison, has the Path that'll take you right into NYC...Kearny is the next town over
I have commuted to NYC for years, and my experience has been that if you take the train into NYC and need to take the subway anywhere from there, you'll have to account for between 20-30 minutes on the subway.
Coming in from Jersey on the train, whether on the PATH or NJ Transit, you're arriving at 33rd/34th street, and by bus you're coming into 42nd street, so my guess would be you'll need to count on 20 minutes to your office from the time you get to NYC. And then you have to factor in the inevitable missed trains and/or delays.
Check out the NJ Transit rail/bus schedule at njtransit.com and the PATH schedule at panynj.com and work backward from there.
From what I've seen, you'll have to get on a PATH from Hoboken at 7:19am in order to get to 33rd by 7:33am, which gives you 27 minutes to get to your office. But good luck getting a one-bedroom in Hoboken for $900. Your chances might improve if you can find some roommates.
