Just coming across this thread again -did you end up hiring it out or doing it yourself?

I tried to convince my wife to let me paint our attic, but she wants is done before 2010 so we may have to use the professionals again!

Have been meaning to post as we've been "lurking" since starting to look for homes in the burbs. We FINALLY have moved into our house after getting the floors and painting done (from referrals here) and both could absolutely not have gone better. It definitely took a while, but was well worth it. And after experiencing this for the first time, I would STRONGLY suggest doing what we did and have painting/flooring finished before moving into a new house! I can't imagine living through that mess!

Floor refinishing company was great (Jacob van Ysseldyk, (973) 740-0233). Such a sweet guy, we didn't even bother getting another estimate. Great job, good price and scheduled us asap.

We fielded a three estimates for painting. Worlds of Colors, Painting America and a painter that my realtor suggested, whose name escapes me. Worlds of Colors came in strangely less than the other two. But, first I didn't receive a copy of their insurance after leaving them messages and then after comparing the estimates closely, it was apparent there were certain items that would not have been included. Plus, we were burned on our condo in Brooklyn by using the cheapest contractor -we decided to go with Fred (Painting America). They were awesome -thorough and communicative. Fred even had his guys do some extra work at no charge. We are scheduled this summer to have our exterior painted by them, too.

We were thrilled with the results of both companies and highly recommend both!
