Another point, regarding a recession, I have to take issue with this. Perhaps it's not that bad in New Mexico, but take last Friday night, for instance. I had to wait 20 minutes to get a table at a restaurant. In three years of living here, that's the first time this has happened. Maybe more people are living here than before, but my point is that when times are tough, discretionary income is the first area where people begin to adjust. Dining out is one such area. So is going to places such as Best Buy, or the Sportsmans Warehouse. I drive by these parking lots often. These places are full of cars. Again, this is New Mexico, not NJ. Depending on which data you look at, I live in either the 5th or 6th poorest state.
I don't know if we are in as much of a recession as the media would like us to think we are in. I remember similar reporting back in 1992. And you know what? By about February of 1993, these articles seemed to fade.
...assuming they are hiring - assuming you qualify!
there is something called a newspaper and in that paper their are pages of ads called help wanted, they may not be dream jobs but there is plenty of hiring going on.
I agree with one thing, when older, higher paid people lose their good jobs it is very hard to find something comparable and it can be a hard come down.
I know plenty of guys delivering pizza who had so called good jobs but nobody ever said life was fair.
I don't remember anyone here sticking their heads in the sand in denial that things are a bit dicey right now. Is the entire country going to crash & burn...well that's just a tad bit to much drama for my blood, hyped up by the media with articles just like the one you linked.
Guess different strokes for different folks..I would do what I had to in order to pay my bills and if it means working at Costco and part time slinging hash at the diner so be it
I agree with you to a certain extend, but there's always that slim possibility. Look at Argentina for example. Many people do not know that it was once the sixth wealthiest country in the world (a title now held by Switzerland).

what I do for a living is directly linked to the housing market...perhaps I am feeling the pinch before most others. It may just be a Jersey thing or a North Eastern State problem but I truly believe it will begin to effect all if things do not improve. If you live in NJ and are paying 10K yr in property taxes plus your mortage and heating bills...100 hrs a week at McDonalds ain't gunna cut it! Sure, sell..downsize, that'll help - thing is NO ONE IS BUYING. I truly hope you are correct mike... if not, do you have any spare bedrooms to rent to a low paid McDonald's cashier? : ))))))))))
So my dear sis wiley.......... since I am lower middle class.....can I come for a burger this weekend I will gladly pay you on Tuesday..........Love, Wimpy
1) You are guilty of using 'profit' in the pejorative. Profit is good. It leads to companies that pay taxes, just like individuals, who theoretically, go towards community expenses that help everyone. Which leads to
