I just got my renewal today from Geico. My 6 month policy will be $587 effective Jan 2023. My policy went up $67 and I drive a 2019 Kia Soul. I'm in North Central Florida. Ins is very costly in Fla. In order for me to have the rate I have I have had to go to MInimum coverage on a full coverage policy. I have not had accidents, tickets or claims period and own my home. I never in my life had minimum limits until living in Fla, but my premium would be double if I did not. I think Fla is the worst state for anything to do with car as well as Homeowners Insurance. My homeowners ins is going up $592 to $1900 for 2023. I've never had a claim on the house either.
I have a desire to get the hell out of Fla in 2023. Not just because of the Insurance issues in this state. For a number of reasons
My parents paid $595 a month for two cars (hondas) and a 2400sqft home in Orlando for insurance.
No accidents. No claims. High credit. Idk. Fl was bad.
In the supposedly high-cost state of NJ, I am paying $1,200 annually for FULL coverage + on a 2022 Lexus with a sticker price of $62k+. My home insurance on a house assessed at $510k is $796 per annum.
Have you asked Governor DeathSantis why insurance rates in his state are so unreasonably high?
I'd like to both ask and tell DeSantis a few things, but I'd probably be arrested.
Well it's pretty obvious why Florida's homeowners insurance rates would be high...
The same issue likely bleeds into car insurance, along with other factors.
I agree the same issues bleed into car insurance. I never had such high insurance prices, especially the costly Increases every renewal until moving into Florida. Every state has increases at renewal, but the Florida increases are extreme
I'm dropping my Geico and bundling my car insurance with my Nationwide Homeowners. It is automatically reducing my car insurance policy $257 with a lower deductible. Then I will get a bundling discount on the homeowners. I was satisfied with Geico but the rates keep going up to much in Florida. In Florida Insurace on home and car is so outrageous your forced to switch companies every so often.

I was going to mention bundling for a discount. I've never shopped around for car insurance because the discounts I get with USAA for having multiple product lines are just amazing. We insure three cars in NJ and pay about $3000/year for the whole fleet.

I'm wondering if they could have shopped for a better deal. I have Geico car insurance, and thought i'd save by bundling home insurance, but the quote was significantly more than what I was paying.
Just Googled why Florida car insurance is more than other states:
- 20% of drivers in Florida drivers are uninsured (that's issue #1), also a bit shocking that the national average is 12%
- PIP Insurance is required because its a no-fault state (issue #2)
- Comprehensive Insurance is high because of the severe weather risks (issue #3)
- Drivers profiles (issue #4)
Are they still in Florida, or did they have enough and leave?
They dipped and went to CT for a number of factors that included: Weather was actually getting boring, not close to family, too hot/humid, missed the New England town feeling and missed not having the Sox/Pats/B's on TV.
Their mortgage in CT is the same payment of their insurance's in FL lol.
