A lot of hype surrounding this kid. Any baseball fans out there as excited about this as I am?

I think it's fantastic! I love seeing a local kid attain the dream every Little Leaguer, including my three boys, had.

NJ produces a fair amount of baseball players.

Mike Trout is the 1st or 2nd best player in the game and he's from Vineland. Rick Porcello went to Seton Hall Prep.

There's more I'm sure, I'm not the biggest baseball fan

Local kid playing for one of the local teams is pretty cool.

I was aware of Mike Trout and Todd Frazier (Toms River), can’t think of too many others. The south produces a lot more ball players (especially Florida) since they can play year round.

Yankees are pinning their hopes on this kid or they would have gone after the big free agent from Houston. You never can tell how these guys pan out. Don't forget Al Leiter from down the shore.

A list if you care. Van DerMeer holds a record that will never be equaled let alone broken. Two consecutive no hitters.

Who was the big free agent from Houston you’re referring to?

Al Leiter’s son actually played baseball with Volpe in high school. They were supposed to both go to Vanderbilt but Volpe decided to enter the draft after the Yankees told him they intended on picking him.

There have been other highly regarded prospects on the Yankees who never fulfilled their potential. Greg Bird and Clint Frazier come to mind. But every so often you get a Posada, Jeter, Cano, or Judge. Maybe Volpe is next on that list.

He went to same HS as Al Leiter's kid, whom I hear is also pretty good.
