If you know someone who is being threatened with layoffs at a children's clothing store a month before school starts, they're doing something wrong.
Not at the store, at Corporate Headquaters in Secaucus. If you've followed the business news you'd see TCP has had a lot of problems beginning with stock fixing, then loosing their contract w/ Disney Stores, etc.... it is not sales, its mismanagement. And it happens frequently. Sadly.
I was a business development analyst, and wanting to get into more true marketing (analysis, branding, positioning, etc...). Biting the bullet and hiring a professional resume writer and interview coach. In this market, I will spend what it takes to make me stand out from the rest of the people trying to find a job.

Good luck to you - it's very hard out there now - I really wish you all the best.
As long as we Americans insist on buying the lowest price items (usually made out of the country) we will continue to lay off our workers. Of course nobody cares about the uneducated unemployed who used to be the backbone employees of our textile, furniture, small manufacturing industries. As long as we can buy products cheaper than American made who cares about the unuducated?
Well I guess it is starting to bite the educated in the ass now. We are now outsourcing college level jobs to the foriegn countries because it's cheaper. As long as the stockholders of the companies are happy, who cares how many Americas get replace by foriegn workers, the bottom line is the only thing that counts.
There of lots of products that we just can't make in this country and we have to import but we are putting our workers on the unimployment lines because we are employing too many foreign workers out of our country.
Our country became the greatest country in the world because of the industrial revolution that employed workers living here. It is not our responsibility to take care of the people all over the world.
Stop buying foreign goods and help a neighbor to keep his job or to hell with the neighbor as long as your stock portfolio keeps increasing in value. You will need it when you get laid off.

The only problem with that emanon, is that TRY buing US only --- it's next to impossible. Almost everything is made elsewhere now. And even when it is "made in the usa" sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. Sometimes the parts are from the US, sometimes they are not. "Assembled" can be more accurate than "made" at times... just look at the auto industry.
Our politicians...of both parties... have allowed corporations to run amok and sell our country bit by bit. It started with manufacturing and just kept going....

I really worry about our future.
I just included a new product line to my business. American made and it uses American Fuel! It's biomass furnaces and boilers. You can burn corn, pellets, oats, wheat, etc. But I have a feeling it's going to be a tough sell to folks in NJ. American products are a bit more expensive but if it means saving our "country" and keeping jobs in the hands of Americans - then we should all be willing to do it. I'm trying but as EEEEEEE said... it's hard to find 100% American Made products anymore.
The other thing is right now, people are REALLY hurting. When people bought homes at rediculous prices, have the highest auto insurance in the nation, gas prices through the roof, food prices up - let's not even talk about taxes - and jobs are going fast and not coming soon.... people get to a point where they may not be able to afford more just because it is from the US.
We were warned... it's not like it's a shock... but the future is now here.

I made a comment in here last year..told people that they need to brace themselves for a recession..possible depression. I really think it going to get worse before it gets better..I can see the unemployment rate hitting near 10 percent in NJ before the end of the year...maybe higher.
I wish I could say that I disagree with you Terry, but I can't. I'm really feeling like we (we meaning my family and we in general) need to make some pretty serious changes to get through this. I wonder how bad it could get.
Honnestly, economically, I don't think either political candidate can do much.
