Has anyone heard more about this hit and run accident on the mouth of the Matedaconk in Bricktown? I was visiting my brother there last weekend and was just so saddened by what happened. Seems some guy on a big speed boat ran into a little 17 foot Boston Whaler and left them for dead. The owner was killed instantly and another passangers called for help. (not the offender) When I left on Tuesday, the offender had just turned himself into the police through his lawyer. Looks like he took his boat out of the water and put it in the garage. The whole county was looking for that damaged boat. Anyone know anything else? Was he charged? Drunk? I live down in N.C. and was ending a 3 week stay when this happened.

I grew up with him but have not seen him in years. I hope he is in a better place now. Very nice family. Very sad.

Read it in the newspaper the other day. No one was charged yet and the officials were still investigating the event.

Yeah, I can't seem to get it out of my mind. It could have been us or any one of a hundred friends who are on that river. I just can't believe someone would just leave them to sink out there in the dark. The coward must have realized there was nothing he could do to hide the boat and turned himself in.

EVERYONE was saying what a great guy he was. Gave to the community, loved his kids, and so on. Lot of sadness on the river right now.

That accident happened by my house and I was unfortunate enough to see the victims as they were taken out of the ambulances and put on 2 state police medical choppers at 0230 hours in the morning. It's unfortunate that some knuckleheads drive in Barnegat Bay at 80 MPH on these go fast boats drunk in the wee hours of the morning. As being involved in law enforcement for over 30 years one of the biggest scams going are for drunk drivers to flee the scene and turn themselves a day or two later after they sobered up. They say they didn't know they hit anything and could now be only charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident versus being charged with aggravated manslaughter. So you could avoid a possible 15 to 20 year prison sentence and possibly only pay a fine. This irked me a long time ago and still does. Ive seen it happen close to 100 times. The state should change this loophole but no there worried about passing laws about sunnyside up eggs and look alike cigarettes.
