It's not going to happen. People were saying the same thing about the Italians in the 1920's . . . then, literally, half of them, realizing that their country had vastly improved since they left, decided to go home. They went from being 20% of the population to about 10% of the population.
The same thing is going to happen with the Mexicans. I've been working in restaurants since I was 15 (and now I speak expletive ladened Mexican spanish.) 10 years ago the guys I worked with were still talking about staying here and having a family and raising their kids as americans. No one says that anymore. They're all saving money to build their dream house in Oaxaca or Puebla and they're going back as soon as they save $x. And it's not just talk. Those that are really into living here stay but most of them are in and out in 3-5 years.
Brazilians are leaving the US en masse to go back to their booming economy.
The only growth I can see is with Asians and that's through continued immigration.
I actually believe it. Many people are going to say it's not going to happen. Let's face it; it was going to happen eventually. They are hardly any "white" people now a days. Most kids are mixed. I think it's a great thing. It can only be an amazing thing for society. Diversity is great. I can't wait.
You know what's funny is that we do have a very racist society - like it or not. I briefly looked at the report in another publication, and they still consider "Hispanic" a race. It's not a race. But I digress.
I find it amazing that we still consider anyone who is "mixed" to not be white anymore. A child who is half black and half white is "black" (i.e, Obama). When a "hispanic" marries a white person, the child is "hispanic" (and lets not forget that's not even a race...)
I like diversity and I really have no problems with this, but I'm sure many other people will. IF it happens, because it's not a given yet... it'll be interesting to see the impact on society.
Speaking of race, has anyone seen the exhibit on race at LSC? I'd like to get there to see that.

Not to belabor this.......but most "black" people are mixed. Many are genetically much less African than Barack Obama. So in actuality we already have two ethnic groups ("Black" and "Hispanic") whose members are very mixed to begin with.
Raise the alarm, arm the cannons and lock the gates!
too late to lock the gates or the Rio Grande.
