You don't need to search the whole day. And if you need someone to care for the kids so you can go interview, ask a neighbor, relative or friend to baby sit him. Or pay for someone to do it, it's probably cheaper than fulltime or pt. daycare...

Other places to look into cutting back cost are:

- shopping in discount warehouses like BJs
- coupon clipping (check Sunday papers)
- downgrade your cable/internet/phone/utility service
- buying groceries from discount grocery stores like Aldi
- reducing 401k contribution (i see you've looked into this already)

These are all things I'm looking into myself since being laid off 2 weeks ago. It sux having to budget but now that you got more time at home you can devote more of it to finding ways to cut costs...

And if worse comes to worse and you still can't find a job after a few months, how about going into a more stable industry like health care or teaching?

Oh, if you haven't done so yet don't forget to file for unemployment asap! $560 per week may not sound like much compared to what you're used to making, but every dollar really helps right now.
Day care..it is about $1,000 per month. Yes, I def consider to cut it if things will not become better in several months. Have been shopping in Costco already
I have a package from my employer for 5 months so will apply to unemployment after I stop being the bank's employee. Def agree that cash can help Already called and cancelled my 401K and so did my husband
I feel like I am so positive right now..I fixed my resume today and already applied for 2 positions Ordered some interview books from library.. Will start preparing tomorrow..Ohh nobody is hiring..Well, it is true I guess

I know Korn Ferry has some financial services folks but I don't know them personally.

I agree with the cutting out the day care if you can manage that... 1K/mo is a lot of moolah when you don't have a paycheck coming in. Just IMHO.

Have talked to several of my friends there in NY/NJ who are on pins and needles with perhaps some announcements to be made by end of this week... just fyi.

Hope all of you facing these cuts get back on your feet soon!

Take care. :-)

Well, look with two kids at home it is not possible to look for another job. Some people say that well you spend searching while they sleep. They sleep an hour and trust me an hour is nor enough...

Oh you know your kids/situation best, and I respect that for sure. It's just that 1K/month for child care seemed high to "an old lady" like me who's already been through it, and has lived for a long time in a much lower cost-of-living area of the US. I have to remember how young kids can be... my one felt like 3 with the energy, so I hear you now. Take care. :-)
