Hello everybody,
I know I am not the only one around here...it is so hard to deal with that.
I came back from maternity leave less than a month ago..well was laid off yesterday..We have 2 years old and 4 month old..just bought a house.
Not sure if it makes sense to start looking in next 6 months. Doubt anybody is hiring right now.
I do finance..
Do you guys know if any companies are looking for people in finance right now??
I have not done any research yet..still recovering from this friday "not really"surprise..

Sorry to hear your sad news. Far too much of this today.

If you were just laid off yesterday, I'd take a little bit of time to wrap your head around it. I seriously doubt anything will be happening this month with the holidays, not to mention the abysmal state of our economy. Take a little breather then get your resume updated and I'd start the serious search after the first of the year.

Finance is a VERY tough field right now, as I'm sure you already know. I wish I had better advice for you. Keep your chin up - you'll make it through one way or another... keep telling yourself that.

So sorry about your layoff.

But that means you need to get out there looking NOW. It's very important to have a minimum of 'dead space' on your resume!!!

I would go for unemployment and here is the beauty of things, even though the job market may suck, you have 10 months of unemployment, so thats a good buffer. Now I would definately start right now looking for a job, but here the best part since you have 10 months of unemployment I would the first three months try anything and everything that may interest you!! You never know, you may just find a new career, also look in your field but why not take this as a new start approach. I mean if you ever said boy I would love to get into lets say sales for example try answering things off the beaten path one that you may not have experience in and take a shot at having some fun. Look at interviews as interviewing them too!! Good luck, jobs are like buses you get off one and another will come along soon!!

Where's the bus stop?

Employers are funny/stupid in that when they see a gap of dates on a resume and the applicant explains that they were looking for a job - those employers frown on that even though THEY are the cause of that problem in the first place.

See, the way that you get around those gaps on the resume is by saying that you were consulting during that time.

Yeah - they'd want that on the resume and or and would want to check the references on that/those jobs.
