I know nothing of Elizabeth and am thinking of taking a job that would have me getting off the train at the Elizabeth train station and walking down Broad St. and waiting for the #1 bus at the corner of Broad St. and Jersey St. Is that safe? Day? Night? I've heard two different things... Can anyone clear this up for me? I want to know what I am getting myself into before I go check it out for myself on Tuesday. I'd prefer not to take my life into my own hands trying to get to work 5-6 days a week with the chance of getting a knife or a gun pulled on me, losing my money or worse. I'm sure it's not that bad, but I want to make sure...
From doing some more reading, the Broad St train station doesn't sound that safe at night? What if instead of taking the train to Broad St. I took an express bus to the Jersey Garden Mall and picked up the #1 bus there and commuted the opposite way on the #1? Does that sound like a better plan?
Anything can happen anywhere. That is a transient area, and I would not feel comfortable there at night by myself on foot. Plan B may be the way to go.
the police station is approx a block away.. there is always people around the area .. it's not the safest area in Elizabeth.. but you should not have any problems.. keep in mind that you are walking around the downtown area of a CITY..
Yes, yes true, but I have seen posts here about junkies and prostitutes hanging around in the train station harassing people and the area being "unruly" at night to it being dangerous all the way to similar to what you said. This is why I ask? Do you think the bad comments are over exaggeration?
I recall a thread on here maybe 8 to 10 months ago where one of our own regular posters were mugged and beaten to a pulp right near that train station. It would take some digging to find but I do remember the thread went on for many pages.
If anyone remembers who that person is perhaps they could give some input if they still are around.
I was born in Elizabeth and lived quite near that train station over on Salem Av. It sure ain't what it used to be.
