I have been experiencing pain in my pelvic (and other...) area that has just been getting worse and worse over the years. I have been to several doctors and ultimately all it's done is subject me to countless painful pelvic exams, ultrasounds and leave me with medical bills but with no real diagnosis or improvememt in my circumstances.

I live in Bergen County, NJ and am desperately looking for leads on a really good obgyn who will listen to me and work to figure out what's wrong with me and actually fix it. I've only been married for a few years and for the greater part of my marriage intimacy with my husband has been at best difficult and sometimes excruciating. It wasnt always like that. I really, really need help. PLEASE.

I know there are several threads on here about obgyns in NJ, but most of them are just recommendations for regular checkups or for pregnancies, while I am specifically searching for someone who will be effective in getting rid of my chronic pain.

Any recommendations or shared experiences (positive) will be greatly appreciated.

Dr. Eder DelVal OB/GYN and Infertility group 609-896-0777.

Check on a condition known as adenomyosis. That can cause your pain BIG TIME.
I went through the same thing. Thought it was ovarian cysts, had them removed, the pain continued. The possibility of the condition was FINALLY picked up on a CT scan and it can only be diagnosed via MRI.

Look into it, go see him. I really feel for you. There's nothing worse than being in pain and not knowing what it's from. Then they can't find anything and you question your own mind.

Best of luck to you. Let me know how it turns out.

Oh you need to see a new doc right away. Make an appt. with this guy above ASAP and don't worry about whether it's covered by your insurance--just go!

Ask for a screening for uterine cancer, too.

I don't know how off the mark this may be but look into symphysis separation. See if that condition resembles the pain you have. It's basically a misalignment of the pelvic bones that can cause internal pain and discomfort. I had it with my 3rd and last pregnancy, a friend of mine had it after being in a car accident when she was 18. It's hard to diagnose and most obgyn's don't think to look for it. I had complained from month 3 until after I delivered about the pain I was having. My pain was written of to 3rd pregnancy, big baby-syndrome, everything BUT what it was. I had 4 u/s and nothing out of the ordinary was found b/c noone was looking for it. When the "diagnosis" was assumed and I went for yet another u/s, it was found immediately.

If anything you look up feels familiar ask for it to be ruled out by your doc. It's not just a pregnancy issue, you could have done something while working out, if you took a spill, etc. Most sites re: SP cater toward the preggo's b/c I guess pregnancy is when it's known to occur and can be easily diagnosed if you have a doc who is on top of things. Which was not my case.

Best of luck to you, I hope you find an answer soon!

You might also try searching Usenet for your symptoms, many people discuss medical issues there and I've found a lot of good information over the years. Try some search terms on the google groups page here:

I have Vulvodynia and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. There was no GYNO that could diagnose me or help me.

The kind of doctor who diagnosed me and gave me proper treatment to stop the pain was a vulvar pain and chronic vaginitis specialist. My doctor is in Philly...but I am sure they have this type of doctor in Manhattan. I would try to get a referral to one from your regular gyno, there is usually a two month waiting list.

Feel free to message me if you need to talk. Good luck!!
