Hmm. Not the world's greatest foodie area overall, but there are some good places. If you're willing to travel a little to some neighboring towns, there are more options. In Waldwick and Allendale:
Allendale:
Allendale Bar & Grill - Good burgers and a great pasta buffet on Tuesdays. The place is seated tightly and regulars seem to get better treatment, but if you can overlook those problems, the place has good food.
Bernie's Bagels: Great muffins and sausage rolls. Bagels are OK, but can't hold a candle to the Bergen County (and maybe U.S.) champ, Saddle River Road Hot Bagels in Fair Lawn.
Waldwick:
Nellie's Place - Great bar pizzas. The regular pizza places in Waldwick are average at best. Go to Nellie's instead.
Italian Riviera - A fantastic Italian deli. Great sandwiches and Italian specialties.
Andrea's - Great Italian food. Can get insanely crowded and a bit expensive, but the food is outstanding.
Lee Garden - Hole-in-the-Wall Chinese take out. Best in the area. I still drive up from Fair Lawn every once in a while to get food from here. Try the chicken & shrimp in brown sauce!
Matthew's Diner - A good solid diner. Nothing real fancy, just good food at fair prices.
Moshi Moshi - A super tiny little sushi place. Good sushi, fair prices on most items. Lunch specials are good. (They have 3 rolls for $10, for example.)
Matthew's Diner amazed me getting "Best Diner" in NJMontlhy. It's ok - but not "best diner in NJ" material imo.
Anyone ever go to The Village Grill in Waldwick?
The Village sucks. It really is pretty awful.... Its very pretentious, while its attached to a drive thru bank and is across the street from 7-11 and a gas station....
The food is no better then a place like AB&G, yet they charge about twice as much, and after hours the bar is filled yuppies drinking $15 martini's...
Someone really ought to open up a good casual dining restaurant and bar at that location. The place hasnt had a steady occupant since it was Kings ransom 15-20 years ago and was vacant for quite a while (It has had multiple owners in the 5 years or so since it has been the Village).
