I'm looking for town suggestions in central NJ. My wife and I currently rent in Metuchen. We are looking to spend around $300,000, and want a single family house. We'd like to stay within a decent commute of New Brunswick. Our preference is to live near a nice downtown area vs living in a suburban development, but we're willing to sacrifice that to have our own place. We'd like the town to have pretty good schools, although more for home value reasons since we don't have any kids yet.
I'm sorry, but I don't know of any place in central NJ in that price range. You might want to wait a while for prices to go down. Or maybe someplace in west/central jersey? You can check out realtor.com and plug in your requirements with a geographical range of 20 miles or so and see what you get.
Single family house on Raritan Road in Cranford for $275K. Motivated seller lives behind my parents. House just went on the market. Raritan Road is a busy road but fenced in backyard, new deck, new upstairs bath.
there are plenty of houses in the 300K range in central jersey. woodbridge township for example...that consists of several towns. hook up with a realtor. i was considering the area myself, but i may wait a year or so.
Yeah; that's the other question... If it makes sense to put up with the people below us in the two family house we rent for another year to see if prices keep falling, or buy now and have a year without that annoyance. It'll be quite a jump for our monthly payment to go from our current rent to the mortgage, so we'd be able to save a lot over the next year.

Thanks.

Yeah, that's a busy road, very close to the border on Garden State Parkway with either Clark or Winfield Park/Linden. House looks pretty darn small, one floor looks like, but I guess for that price it's ok.
