Does anyone know if Verizons direct tv is a Satelite dish deal or does it come in through phone line like the high-speed internet I'm getting from them. We're looking at their tripple play bundle for $79 a month since Comcast is now requiring a digital box for basic service. Was only paying $15 mth to Comcast for about 50 'basic' channels but this week they shut us down to just the networks networks and tbs, wgn, hsn + one or two others. Apparently to get those channels we just lost like lost espn, yes, msg, msnbc, cnn, fox news etc we need their digital box and price jumps from $15 up to $40-45 range. So thinking about Verizon as an option now, thanks.

It's satelite.
The other is Verizon Fios which is not available in all areas

Cablevision has done the same thing...many stations in my "package" now require a box which incurs another fee. I don't know how they get away with it as they should reduce your rate if you choose not to rent a box and lose all those stations that were in your package.

As far as Cable, they are a monopoly, as you have only one cable company in a given area

If you go Verizon be aware there is an early termination fee on the direct TV if you don't like the service and want to go back to Comcast

If Verizon Fios is available in your area you should get it. Comcast is overpriced and outdated.

The worst thing I hate about comcast is that if something is wrong with the your cable tv and they have to come out to fix something they charge you - My thing with that is if I broke the wire or it got ripped out somehow then fine i can see i have to pay a fee but if My wires are intact (which by the way when I moved there they installed everything) and I'm still getting bad eception or the shows are freezing I shouldnt have to pay anything that is their messed up service/wires... but what can you do - you dont pay they dont fix.

Well this stinks! For years we've been getting 'Limited Basic' cable from Comcast for about $15 a month which gave us about 50 channels from 2-99. NOW 2 days ago they changed all channels above 29 to digital which requres a 'FREE' adaptor but the caatch is the adapter is only free if you upgrade to 'Expanded basic'. So for $40 a month we can get back the channels we've been getting for all these years for $15 AND nothing more!!

Would anyone know if the adapters can be purchased outside of comcast to be used by people like myself who already get limited basic service in order to enable these 'new' expanded basic channels. The adapters look to be very basic equipment and I'm not talking about convertor boxes.

They should be paying YOU to watch TV. I just have the free digital stuff with about 35 or 40 channels that you get over the air but I hardly ever have time to watch it anyway.

If HD is important to you, as it is to me, Comcast is NOT the way to go. I am getting rid of it after 1 month. I am switching to Verizon FIOS.
