Regarding this World Series, in the NY Post:

Frillies are coming to town!

A friend emailed this to me, and it involves one of my favorite subjects of NYC vs Philly, and how NJ is in the cultural cross-hairs, where half of the state is aligned with Philly the other half NYC.

"Living up to their second-class billing going into the start of the Fall Classic tomorrow, the Phils arrived in New York yesterday -- by train."

"Gotham has been regularly beating the pants off Philly since overtaking the one-horse town as the nation's economic capital in the early 19th century."

"Although Philadelphia doesn't draw the same ire among New Yorkers as Boston or Los Angeles, it's mostly because Gothamites consider the city across the Ben Franklin Bridge pretty pathetic, says Bleacher Creature Michael Stewart.

"I don't have hate for Philly exactly -- they are like our redheaded stepchild," he said.

"It's like a nothing city. It's just insignificant in comparison to New York."

Another Yankee fan, Laura Nidelle, 24, insists the Yuengling-slinging rubes in Philly are uncultured and uninteresting -- and go to bed too early.

"I briefly lived in Philadelphia and I couldn't wait to get out," the Brooklyn writer said. "Their fans are whiners, the food is lousy and there is nothing to do. "

For the brief time (1 year) I lived in Manhattan, pretty much the whole island was populated with "rubes" from Oklahoma who felt they were now urban and superior to everyone else - and rooted for "superior" sports teams like the Yankees and wore their logo clothing.

And for the record, I'll take a cheesesteak over some weird middle eastern kabob off a dirty cart parked next to a heap of garbage bags. As for fine food, NYC obviously has more choices but I've found Philadelphia's better restaurants to have equal quality to anything in NYC. South Philly's Italian joints are among they best you'll fine in the U.S. As for the girl who thought Philly went to bed too early, I guess she never found South Street on a map.

Yep - most of these "real New Yorkers" are rubes from Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Georgia, etc. who move to NY to live out their hipster fantasy of being one of the "Sex in the City" girls or "Rent" guys. Most of them were losers where they grew up and moving to NY and becoming a "real New Yorker" is their revenge, so they can go back to East Hickville, Michigan and say "Look at me NOW! I'm a big city slicker! In NY, you gotta be TOUGH to SURVIVE!!!" Of course, by that they mean you have to argue over the phone to get on the VIP list for a club or a reservation at the hot new eatery, and you have to drink some PBR's to save your trust fund money once in a while until the new check clears.

Philly and South Jersey folks shouldn't worry too much about that attitude, most New Yorkers don't feel that way and the ones who say those things will do it only to provoke and instigate an argument.

Philly cheesesteaks are unrivaled. However, the Halal carts "streetmeat" - lamb and/or chicken over rice with white sauce - is also unrivaled. Foodwise both cities are excellent, but NY's sheer size means many, many more options.

As for the world series, I hope an earthquake swallows up Stankee Stadium along with all the Stankees and Sillies before either team wins.
