Hi,
I am single and I am relocating from Chicago to Jersey City and my working place is very close to Pavonia/Newport PATH station.

I would really appreciate it if someone could recommend me a neighborhood around Pavonia/Newport where I can find a cheap apartment that is close to my working place. Also I've got a car and I may need street parking..

Thank forum!

newport (zip 07310) is a good area with a lot of rentals that start around $1400 for a studio.

there is also exchnage place/paulus hook, the area south of newport. Basically open up google map, the area between, and around Newport PATH station and Exchange Place PATH station, are all good.

If the rents are too high, the next area is by the Grove Street PATH station, you can rent an apt in a walkup brownstone building there for about $300 less than a highrise in newport/exchange place.

Thank you, the good old student days when I spent $700 a month for rent have gone..

I would not want to live in any area in jersey city where the rent is $700, it will be either a dangerous rundown neighorhood or terrible building, or both. You should goto the high rise rentals around those areas and ask if there are any promotions going on. I heard quite a few buildings are having a lot of incentives (like 2 months free etc..) to get rid of their vacant rentals due to the economy. So you should be able to get some great deals.

Thank u so much,gagaliya!
I've got a potential roommate who will be working East 52nd Street in NYC. I wonder if there is a place which has convenient transportation to both there and Newport/Pavonia? So we can share a two bedroom apartment to lower the cost.

Would you consider living in Newark? The Ironbound is relatively safe and has cheaper rent than downtown JC. It's right on the PATH, as well NJ transit so your friend could take the bus to Port Authority or the train to Penn station. Rents for a 2 bedroom run 1200 - 1500 from what I have seen on CL.
