They definitely vary by zip code. I went to college at TCNJ which is in Ewing..right next to Trenton. I left my address as my home address because my rate was much higher if I put Ewing as my address since its not considered as safe of a neighborhood being so close to Trenton. Its ridiculous but true
It definitely matters as does the type of housing you live in and whether or not you have a driveway/private lot or park on street. If you live in a high crime area in an apartment your rate will be a lot higher than someone who lives in a low crime area in a single family home with a garage/driveway.
Yes, it's based on the rate of accidents/stolen cars, etc in the area. A densely populated area is going to result in higher insurance because more cars = more accidents. I'm not sure if it is zip code or by county, though. My insurance went down when I moved from Sicklerville to Marlton, but IMO Marlton was much more trafficy. So I'm guessing they went by a comparison of Burlington County to Camden County. My rates went down agaon when I moved down here.
Some even take your credit rating into it- - that just sounds wrong
Im looking to change myself- Ive had Geico for 5 or 6 years, they raised my rates 12% after yrs of them not going up at all. I didnt get any tickets, a different car, I didnt move- so I dont know why?? and all they told me was - Sorry but all insurance(AUTO) in NJ is going up-
I dont buy into that - -sooo- that frigging lizard with the accent is out!!!- I think between him, and the cavemen, they spend so much on advertizing and marketing they jacked up the rates- no seriously ,I have no idea- - but Im looking to save ,being as Im still layed off and can trim a little fat -here and there-
