Governor Chris wants to get rid of Bergen County blue law that we had for over 50 years. The law required all malls (retails) to be closed on Sundays, which gives a day of rest. However restaurants, movie theaters, and groceries still remain open, and there are nearby malls in other counties, + NYC is close.

I myself LOVE the blue law and wish the entire country had same law! A day of rest being with family and relax is awesome!

I really don't think that this is the Governor's business and that he has more important things to worry about.

I have a great idea. Why don't we remember that America is a free country and allow the following:

People that want to rest on Sundays should be totally allowed to do that. People that want to work on Sundays should be totally allowed to do that.

In other words, let's move back to a system where we stop being busybodies trying to enforce our world views upon our fellow citizens.

Is that too much to ask? Am I shooting for the moon here?

My thoughts exactly!!!

All though last Sunday we went to George Washington cemetary to put a flag on my father in laws grave....then drove to River Edge where hubby lived as kid...

When we were on Rt 4 Or 17 whatever, I get lost there, it was nice that because all those malls were closed traffic was light

The Law is very popular in this County , smaller towns allow a main street stores open but larger towns don'r for certain reasons. 70% of the County favors it , so if the Governor tried to repeal it , there goes alot of his votes. Business owners also favor it.

why can't it be left to those who reside in the county? if most people want it, keep it. if they don't, they'll vote to overturn it. problem solved. isn't that what America is all about?

It comes up for a vote and is always shot , although a few years ago they relaxed some Main Street areas. But most Businesses like the idea anyway and so do teens who work for the Businesses. Its an automatic day off.

You people realize repealing it wouldn't mean you still can't rest on Sunday right? Come on people we're no longer in the 1600's.

If businesses were in favor of the laws it shouldn't make a difference. They would just not open up on Sunday.

PPL don't realize that my county is nearing 1 million people , the roads are maxed out like R17 , I-80 or 4........the promises of Rail corridors have failed recently do to corruption. So this would be bad. Most ppl just relax or sleep in on Sundays anyway , if the shop they go to the 3% sales tax zones of Passaic , Essex , or Hudson County.
