Anyone know of rustic & beautiful tent camping (no rvs) in March near cloudcroft? ie 3/24 - 3/26

The best ones are off of state road 130 south of cloudcroft. Turn right at the Sunspot sign just as you enter Cloudcroft from Alamo and drive about 3 or 4 miles and you'll see them all along on the west side of the road.

We are thinking of pulling a pop up from Minnesota to the Cloudcroft area sometime late July or early Aug. We will be staying about 10 days so we need showers. From what I can find it looks like Silver, Apache and Saddle campgrounds have showers. Just wondering how hard it is to get into those campgrounds at that time of year. Any other suggestions? We need to be close to Alamogordo as the purpose of our trip is to lay the groundwork for our move next fall.

You should definitely make reservations as early as possible. Those are very popular campgrounds. There are other commercial (and Nat. Forest) campgrounds in the area, but those three are in the prettiest area, IMO.

I don't know if this will help or not but (some?) of the campgrounds in the Sacramento District of the Lincoln Nat. Forest are managed under contract by a private/commercial firm -
Recreation Resource Management.
It's also quite possible to camp anywhere in the Nat. Forest where access is not restricted by fencing or locked gates/barriers or signage. The "Sunspot Highway" affords a number of great access points in the form of both paved and unpaved side roads. There are also a few open spots along the Sunspot highway itself including one good graveled parking area for RVs if that spot is not locked off.
Are there any small creeks or rivers in any of the campsites?
Although people call them "rivers" locally, they are ALL merely creeks, some having flows that wouldn't even qualify them as creeks - more like rivulets. And yes, you can find campgrounds (or you can simply camp) where there are spring-fed rivulets that in some cases have been dammed to form small ponds - also referred to as "lakes" by locals! For example: Silver Lake campground just NW of Cloudcroft is on Mescalero reservation land.

LOL, Lake? The street is almost as wide :P I wouldn't mind a small stream/river.
