I'm moving to Socorro in January from Kansas City Missouri to attend New Mexico Tech and I've been trying to find good information on the types of Fauna that are common-to-uncommon in the county, the city and that part of the state.
I'm mostly interested in Scorpions, Spiders and Snakes. Google hasn't really turned up much for me.
Some questions I do have are;
Are there Bark Scorpions in the City/County?
How common are they?
What types of spiders are common?
What I remember most from Socorro are children-of-the-earth. I've also heard stories of large half scorpion-centipede looking things, which are even more menacing than they sound.
Pure little scorpions, don't remember seeing any.
Spiders, typically daddy longlegs, desert recluse, occasionally black widows.
Not so much in terms of snakes, particularly near Socorro.. out in the mountains may yield bull snakes and rattlers in the prairies.
