The University of New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball team won the Mountain West Conference Championship -- AND were picked as a #5 seed in the NCAA Tournament -- all in one weekend!
The Lobos will play Long Beach State on Thursday, March 15 (Approximately 2:10 p.m. Mountain Time tip-off) in the first round of the Big Dance.
The Lobos finished strong with a 27-6 record. Long Beach State is a worthy opponent.
A couple interesting stats I ran across was this seasons record against tournament teams; New Mexico is 6-3, Long Beach 1-7. The one stat that is relevant to where both clubs are right now is both teams had an 8-2 record regarding their last 10 games.
I was at the tournament and there were at least 8000 fans from New Mexico there. The semifinal game against UNLV had more Lobo fans than the home team. New Mexicans love the Lobos and travel well. Let's keep it going!
New Mexico over Long Beach State 75-68. Drew Gordon led the scoring with 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Kendall Williams came in with 16 points, 14 in the second half!
