You're impression is correct. La Luz has historically been a very "close" (if not closed) community.

But it's fast being overtaken by surrounding developments. Not to be overlooked are the homes ABOVE La Luz in the area known as The Orchards. Nothing much remains of the former orchards since housing development began some 40 years ago, and the views from that height (out over the Tularosa basin and White Sands) to the west are truly spectacular.
