That doesn't always work. My last speeding ticket was for going 65 in a 65. Sometimes police make mistakes.

Z didn't say what speed the ticket was for... But if the ticket said he was doing 65 mph in a 65 mph zone, then I'm sure he didn't have to pay anything.
What in the hell happened do warrant this, and WHERE? Do share, so I can avoid similar prosecution in the future!
I-40 EB, western outskirts of Albuquerque (around 98th St exit). There had been some construction 5 miles back but the zone had ended and there was at least one posted "Speed Limit 65" sign post-construction. MTD officer was convinced it was a 55 (though he didn't check "CZ" on the ticket).
I went back a day later with a camcorder to document that characteristic. When the hearing date finally arrived, the officer, upon hearing that I had left evidence at the security station (they don't let you bring camcorders past security but they will hold them for you) offered to drop the charges.
Felt like a real letdown but I didn't see much of an upside to refusing to let him drop the charges, so..
I am certain there are multiple others who received an almost identical ticket who just paid it. I am likewise certain that if the officer had realized his error, he wouldn't have offered to drop the charges against people with court dates after mine.
(It bears mention that I have been caught actually speeding in the past; getting ticketed in error after you've begrudgingly decided it's cheaper not to speed really messes with your faith in law enforcement).
... cop suddenly blew by from behind, going after the guy I was tailing - and
pulling us BOTH over in the process. That's the last time I tried that trick.
That "trick" generally works and it is still better than just going it alone.
Going 80 in a 55? You actually new you were speeding by 25 mph? ---> Balls-O-Brass. Big ones!
The most I would speed would be 10 mph over and only if I had a bait car.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. When you're speeding with a "rabbit" (I prefer that term because "bait car" is a very entertaining yet different thing entirely), you are splitting the risk (sometimes the back car gets pulled over only).
Nothing like doing 110 in a 65 for 2 hours straight. For some odd reason, I believe past a certain speed your odds of getting a speeding ticket actually go down for a given distance, since you're spending less time on the road. The severity of punishment if you are caught goes way up, of course.
