Let me tell you something. I'm from NYC and thought I knew it all when it came to food . The first time I had a green chile cheeseburger at the Owl Cafe in Socorro, the heavens opened up and I saw angels singing. And, they had the nerve to ask for a bite of my burger - I wasn't sharing ... It was that good. This is no hype. If you have a good New Mexico meal prepared well with red or green chiles it will be unforgettable experience. Plus, they're healthy eats too!
Your post inspired me to start making green chile cheese veggieburgers at home with my hatch hot. Now we are hooked! We were eating them between bread, but today we even bought buns. Yum! Can't believe I've lived this long without trying a green chile cheese burger.
I have a fondness for NM chillies. It probably borders on the line of obsession. Even after honeymooning in NM, my husband doesn't understand it. I grew up spending time in the summer and winter in NM, so it was a regular part of my diet. I'm so glad to see that it's not just a tourist thing.
I've never tried 505, but all of the other canned and jarred green chile tend to taste like exactly what they are--canned! It will do in a pinch, yes, but I find the Bueno and Biad frozen green chile better if you can get it.
