Who do you recommend for internet service if you're not in a Metro Area . We tried Hughes Net and they were horrible and so far have kept our deposit.

Would a Hot Spot work better with some signal boosting device? Verizon?

Our place is located outside Ruidoso and Tularosa on lovely Nogal Canyon Drive in Bent.

I was just out there, nice valley.

I looked up this stuff a few months ago just for fun (feeding my "living in the boonies" fantasy) but I can't really help you. Nothing looks that great. It seemed that Exede got the best reviews for satellite. Also check Verizon and see if they can do anything.

Also, ask your neighbors!

Neighbors don't particularly care about fast internet. Yikes everyone seems to agree on Hughes Net being horrible. We will try Windstream

I live in Capitan. I use Verizon usb broadband but the data is limiting. Windstream gives you unlimited data but quality varies.

I had Windstream for several years and when they weren't having connectivity problems, they were okay. I live within the village of Ruidoso. But they didn't have fiber optic capability and download speed was pitiful.

I switched to Baja Broadband (recently bought out by TSD) and get 10mb download at their basic rate for both internet and telephone. Only problem with their system is if they go down so does my telephone - which forced me to finally invest in a cell phone for the rare times when there is a disruption.

If you get DSL out there, it almost certainly better than any satellite or wireless service.

Correction: It's now TDS - not TSD.

Internet - HelloTDS
