For Zoidberg (post #2 above), California DMV does partner with the Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA) for certain transactions. Much easier and quicker than going to a DMV office, although our last few visits to the DMV, albeit infrequently, haven't been too much of a hassle at all.

I suppose if you're stuck going to an inner-city DMV branch in L.A. or Oakland or some such place, the experience might be less than positive to say the least. But in the suburbs, it's a step or two better, generally speaking.

My wife and daughter drove through New Mexico earlier this week on their way home from Texas and enjoyed the beauty that NM offers in so many ways throughout the state.

So I have 10 days to renew my tabs, I'm out of state, I can't and wont pay MVD Express fees, I've sent letters with my insurance info to MVD, and called them 199 times but can never, ever, ever get through. When I try to renew online it says there is a balance on my account and my registration is suspended, and that I should come in to an MVD office, which I can't do.

Unbelievable. I mean its one thing to suspend me, but to give me no viable option for getting it reinstated, or even a reason why it is suspended, is incredible incompetence. But that who gives a damn attitude we'll get to it some day is part of what I like about NM, although not in cases like this

When I register my car (maybe I'll go to Estancia) will they ask me what style of license plate I want?

They should, but if they don't you should ask them.
