Edgewood is a town in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, United States. It is part of the Santa Fe, New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Looks like there are some big plans for Edgewood. The developers (Liberty Developement Group) want to buils a Hotel, Townhomes and Movie Theater along with 200,000 sq ft of more commercial and retail space all known as Liberty Square.
Well i don't think the area will ever be fully populated as water is getting very scare all around NM. Anyway i'm not really pro or con about them growing as i can see both sides of the argument but i do feel that the towns people should be able to decide if they want to grow or not.
6 Foot 3 - you hit the nail on the head. You notice the article says "IF" it gets approved. If there is enough support to kill the project, not sure it will go forward. I also enjoyed the line in the article where retailers were called "parasitic". Gee...makes me want to just run over there and rent some space!
I don't get the attraction to living in Edgewood in a planned community. It wouldn't be any different of a lifestyle than living in one in Rio Rancho or Los Lunas, but it *would* come with all the disadvantages of being way the heck out of town.
I understand the attraction for living out there in a trailer or lonesome house plopped in the middle of a huge tract of land with horizon-to-horizon views. I can't relate to it, but I can understand it.

I meant all the way out there with almost no employers. Sure, now you don't have to drive to ABQ to get toilet paper, but can you get a breakfast at Weck's? To me, being out there would be most inconvenient.
Someday maybe Edgewood might be hill after hill of houses like some of the outlying suburbs of Denver and Phoenix and Dallas and ... but I doubt it. I-40 is about as improved as it's ever going to get. Plus upcoming $5+++/gallon gasoline won't allow it.
