They are showing up in local stores now. Our Lowe's Market here in Alamo has them for $17 per 25-pound bag, with free roasting in the parking lot. It's going to smell great around here for the next 8-10 weeks!

My local Albertsons has its roasters out on the sidewalk -- almost giddy with excitement...

I am seeing roasters set up along roadsides here and there, too. I assume most folks freeze what they can't immediately use. That's what I do anyway.

I love this time of year because of the smell of roasting Hatch chiles.I love that smell.

We buy a small amount of Roasted, just for the nostalgia, and then we buy canned, bottled, frozen etc throught the year...

A friend in Anchorage tells me the local Fred Meyer (Kroger) has fresh Hatch chiles for 99 cents a pound. How far New Mexico's treasure has spread!
