The Westside Open Space Headquarters periodically has a "Meet the Wolf" exhibition that Debbie and I have been meaning to go to
ever since we heard about it. The Wanagi Fund is a 401C (true non-profit) dedicated to protecting wolves that have been raised in
captivity or otherwise socialized in such a way as to be unable to return to their natural habitat.
We finally got there this afternoon...
Hopefully some pics of Your Humble Servant with said wolf will eventually surface, but I guess he decided I taste
good as I got a full-bore face licking from him...
How do they act relative to your average domestic dog?
Hmmmm.... well, I'm no expert, but they seemed far more determined than domestic
dogs. When he wanted to go out into the audience to check someone out, he was
darn well going. Very self-assured.
We arrived at the end of the lecture and he immediately saw us in the hall and
we became all he was interested in until he'd had a chance to sniff us and generally
check us over. Not at all intimidating, but very willful. I really had the sense that
he was not being "obedient" during the lecture and photo shoot, but that he enjoyed
all the attention and the physical contact.
Obviously he's very socialized, but he's still a very large and very powerful animal
and when he wanted to move, he pulled Maya around like a toy at the end of
a leash. As she pointed out, they are terrible at multi-tasking so when he focused
on something, it had almost all his attention until he was satisfied.

He IS very socialized, and while he may be willful and such, he still saw you as one of the pack leaders, or he wouldn't have licked you in the face. That is submissive behavior.
Even at that, I'd still probably never let my guard down around any wild animal, even a domesticated one...and I've seen many over the years other than wolves.
Looks like you enjoyed the outing! Thanks for sharing.
