Hey guys.

I did a quick search over the internet to see if a similar enough question came up, but nope.

I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and I realllly want to take a trip to NOLA before I start university this fall (Sept 5th). Even more inspiring is the fact that it's about $100 one way by Greyhound bus from my town. I've never been further south on this continenent than Indianapolis so I have no idea how bad the weather can get with the humidity. It gets pretty brutal up here in Ontario in the summer and I'm not sure how much worse it will be down south, especially being stuck in a bus for almost two days.

Since people live here year-round, I'm hoping you guys will convince me that it'll be okay. What do you do to beat the heat? It seems like there's no beaches or places to go swimming safely, so I'm curious as to how the city copes. Also, I'm guessing it will be considerably less touristy at this time? Hopefully I can score some good airfare back home so I can maximize my days in the city.

Thanks, guys.

P.S I accidentally postes this in the general Louisiana forum instead of the NO one. Feel free to move it mods, I can't figure out how to delete this post so that I can properly re-post.

I can't imagine Ontario being that humid. September would be milder.

I don't understand threads like this. Yes, it will be hot. Yes, it will be humid. Yes, you will survive. You may even see people outside walking around!

The best preparations are:

1. Make plans to do most of your activities earlier in the morning or later at night.

2. Bring LOTS of water. Or at least drink lots of fluids while out and about.

3. Try to stay in the shade, which in the FQ is fairly easy to do.

4. bring an umbrella if you have to be out in the direct sun for a while. It might not be raining but it will keep direct sunlight off you and its worth it.

5. Wear looser fitting clothing so your body can breathe.

6. Make frequent trips inside buildings where the ACs are usually on and it feels like an icebox.

Thats pretty much the best ways to bear the heat if you are a walking tourist to NOLA.

Ontario is VERY humid, in many places you can't sleep at night without AC and often I can do that in AZ.

To the OP, I say go for it. You're young and it will be an awesome experience. Yes it will be hot but don't let that stop you. Who knows when your next opportunity will be.

It will be hot as hell, and humid-- but you'll have the time of your life. I know you're Canadian, but I've always thought that every "true American" has to visit New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans (because everywhere else is Cleveland- and yes, I completely ripped that off).
