They sound positive and eager to fit in. Isn't that a good thing?

You must not be familiar with New Orleans.

Not talking about anyone here but sometimes the name Orleans would fit better.

Well bless your hawt...but they are highly irritating and they don't understand the difference between "out in da parish" and "down in da parish", they think Paul P invented Cajun cooking and (worst of all) they don't even know on which day to throw out their Xmas trees!

Eager to fit in and eager to appear an authority are two different things.

I keep seeing a bumper sticker that pretty much sums up how I feel about many of these types "This is La., NOT L.A."

The below article (which drew the ire and fire of many a local) kind of illustrates the type of folks we speak of here. I can't tell you how many of these types just do not get that native New Orleanians could give two craps about "How you do it in New York" or Portland, or L.A., or any other city for that matter.

Absolutely.

Haters gonna hate. There is plenty of city for everyone and New Orleans traditions aren't going anywhere. People are a little miffed that instead of 5 poboy shops in a row, there's now 3 po-boy shops, a bbq place, and a sushi bar. Oh the horror!

For every "hype-ster" that you see, I'll show you a "native" that lives in Kenner or Metairie and hates New Orleans, never been to Super Sunday, doesn't know what Dat Dog is, can't navigate through Broadmoor, spends Mardi Gras Day in another state, never seen show at Tips, etc.

Know it all Yats that don't live here anymore are much more annoying.

"Those damn Spaniards, coming in here, changing everything!" said some French dude in 1763

I can and have done them all, culture does not end at the parish line as some on either side would believe. I also have no problem with new business and really cannot stand the NIMBY types that are constantly undermining progress, like what we see with Havana Outpost amongst others. On the flip side I am also a big believer in "When in Rome" so to speak and grow tired of hearing every hipster carpetbagger complain and moan about "how they do it in ________". If I'm in Boston, San Francisco, or any other city I enjoy the city, its culture, and vibe, not walk around bitching and complaining about how they need to do things like we do in NOLA. I expect the same from the transplants here.
