Not sure if it's considered Cajun, but Jacques Imo' s on Oak st is awesome. Every dish I've had there has a big pile of fried oysters on top of it. Ok, now I'm hungry.

I ended up eating creole food instead but that's because we were so behind schedule we had to settle on a place, fast! I thought Louisiana and New Orleans especially, was beautiful, but did not enjoy getting through the state. From Shreveport to Lafayette it was fine, but as soon as we got on I-10 from Lafayette to New Orleans, the traffic was horrendous. Horrible drivers and endless construction. Took 10 hours in total in Louisiana, when it should have been 5 on the road and plus an hour or two in New Orleans. It ruined my experience in the state and from now on I'll stick to the northern highways of the state. Thanks all for suggestions, and I found New Orleans wonderful. So lively and full of culture. Hopefully my next visit won't be rushed and can be enjoyed more!

It's great that you enjoyed your short stay, even though it was shorter lived than you would've liked it to be. Maybe one day you'll be able to enjoy it more

I-10 between Lafayette and NOLA is a nightmare. I haven't seen anywhere in the country that is scarier to drive. Those bridges are death traps and I-10 is often closed down because of a wreck.

A couple of the dishes I've had there are very similar to what I've had in Cajun restaurants. That whole Cajun/Creole thing still confuses me a little. I'm just glad I live here and get to eat the best food in America on a regular basis.
