I just got a letter in the mail from a lottery I applied to back in the spring. Its for the Related bldg at 529 West 29th. This building is a little different than any of the one's I've applied to in the past. 70% preference is to be given to "artists" and the other 30% for cb 4 members. The building will be 100% affordable, not 80/20. Has anyone interviewed yet for this bldg? I literally just got it in the mail today. it is dated and postedmarked 12/30/2013 so idk why the delay but the letter says I must be interviewed by 01/20/2014. I called to make an appt but no one answered. I also sent an e mail this afternoon. If I can't get thru to schedule the interview I will go in person to request the interview which is one of the options listed in the correspondence. I have a 2 member household. 1 member is a freelance production assistant but the work is sporadic to say the least but has been done over the last 3 years. I guess I will have to go and find out if we can be part of the preference group.

I don't live in CB 4 either, but the interviewer told me that they have went through all the preferenced applicants and did not have enough quilified applicants to fill the building. The building is scheduled to open in March. The interview went fine. They are verifying everything right now with IRS, landlords, past employers, credit checks, etc. My landloard got his verification last week so they are moving pretty fast. The interviewer was really nice. This building is not 80/20, its 100% low income. From the info the interviewer gave me, lets say you are accepted for the apt and the next year you lost your job, the minimum rent would be $25.00. Its a section 8 based building. I have no experience with section 8 at all, so I don't know that much about it. The rents will be based on 30% of an applicant's income and can flutuate as the applicant earns more or less and after 20 years the owner can opt out of the program meaning rents can and probably would raise. My log number was in the 100's. The closest train in penn station through the entrance on 8th and 32nd so its a pretty good walk from 29th and 10th ave

Hi everybody, My log number was in the 500's and I got called to set up an interview/paperwork etc etc. It took about 2-3 weeks then I got a request for a home visit. They come to your home for about 10 minutes. They ask a few questions and thats it. I haven't heard anything since, so I'm going to give them a call on Monday. During my initial interview they said the building was scheduled to be ready in January/February.. but it was looking more like March/April.

The home visit is a pretty good indication that you got it!

So I'm hearing the building opens in May. The surrounding area for now is awful as there is tons of construction and quite a trek from the subway. Things will be much better once the 7 train extension is open and Hudson yards is complete.Good luck to those that applied.
