If you had a home visit (for Mitchell-Lama or other) what was it like? The manager that showed me the coop said the home visit isn't a big deal and takes 5 minutes. Do they look in your closets? Do they go through your cabinets? Do they just walk in take a quick look and leave? Do you know anyone who failed a home visit?
The whole home visit thing makes me uncomfortable and I'm not sure what they are looking for. We are a little cluttered but we are clean.
I went to look at a place in Goddard Riverside (711 Amsterdam Avenue) and the guy told me there would be one. This was just today. It's a Mitchell-Lama coop so I don't know if that makes a difference.
They look to see if how many people are actually living with you and to see if any red flags go off. You applied for a two bedroom that only accepts 2-3 and currently live in a two bedroom but have 5/6 people, etc
Okay. I just looked up the rules and it said, "Home visits conducted in connection with a credit check are permitted." https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/hpd/down...lama-rules.pdf I guess because they check our credit they can do a home visit. There's 3 of us and I'm not lying about that so I guess i don't have to be worried about anything.
I've had a couple of home visits over the years. They are most concerned about the number of people compared to what was claimed on the application. They will take pictures to ascertain you are not a pig.
Probably now they will spot check your mattress for bedbugs.
I asked one guy what was the worst he had seen. He said "One guy last week had tires on his bed."
Another was impressed with my place (Newport, J.C.) and he asked "Why would you want to move?"
