Technically, yes, you are supposed to reserve the elevator for any move-in and any "furniture or other large or bulky property or item". In practice, if you drive up with your own car or truck and only have a TV and mattress and a few boxes, security probably won't stop you. They also have no way of making you only use the padded elevator during the move. There are security cameras in the elevators so they will know if you are moving a lot of things, and/or if you damage the elevator. I would try to arrange for the padding if you can. ETA: congrats on the closing!
Thanks so much! I finally closed and spent one night on an air mattress I purchased. I need to get a move on ordering appliances and furniture!
I got a 3 room 1BR on the D line, and measured the entry to the kitchen as 30" wide, and I *think* the doorway into the apt is 30"wide as well. I would really like a standard stove and fridge, so 30" wide each (and not counter depth). Did anyone have trouble moving a 30"w. stove or fridge into their apartment? Will the Home Depot or PC Richards delivery people take the appliance out of the box to get in the door?
I am considering putting the stove next to the sink, and then putting the fridge on the wall opposite the entryway. I think that the fridge could sit next to the stove as the space from sink to the wall is 70.5", but I may just want to squeeze a little work space on the other side of the stove. If I put the fridge next to the stove, I'm a little concerned about the door opening beyond 90 degrees to allow me to pull out crisper drawers all of the way. I'd be interested in hearing what others have done in their kitchens (the small ones with windows).
Also, has anyone mounted a microwave above the stove?
Hey Congrats!! They will definitely take the appliances out of the box and the doors off the refrigerator if necessary. My refrigerator is 36" wide but its a counter depth, only 24 " deep without the doors. My stove is only 24" wide. I have the stove next to the sink (9" gap in between, am looking for a 9" shelving unit to fit in there) and the refrigerator next to the stove. I put an 11" deep and 5 foot wide butcher block shelf on the opposite wall under the window for work space.
I didn't mount a microwave but I installed a stainless steel shelf above the stove and have a microwave sitting on it.
Be careful when ordering furniture as my sofa bed would not fit in the elevator. They should have given you a paper with the elevator dimensions at your closing, trust it because I had to pay the delivery guys extra $$$ to carry it up the stairs and these champs did, to the 14th Floor!!
