I’m sorry she’s going through that I didn’t have this problem I been renting a room in the same place for year and when I had my interview I got a new sublease with the date from when I started renting the room until when a new sublease would stop, if that’s the address that her paychecks are coming into then it shouldn’t be a problem , if she pays rent in cash and has receipts then this can help her as well because she can have receipt matching what the sublease agreement is , if this doesn’t work they will just do a background check I don’t know why they are giving such a problem in a dam pandemic people have other worries ! And trust they are not coming to these addresses to verify if you’ve been living in it for years were in a pandemic it’s just to much of a risk !

missmoore, I'm happy that it worked out for you. Congratulations on getting a lottery apartment! But in your case, were you an illegal tenant? I mean to say, was the person you were renting from doing it on the sly? If yes, you were in the same situation as the OP's friend. But if you were a legal tenant, that changes the dynamics a bit.

In the case of the OP's friend, I highly doubt the landlady is going to want to fill out a sublease giving her name and address. But look, I hope I am wrong and that it all goes smoothly!

My exact thought, it sounds as missmoore, wasn't on a month-to-month, verbal contract as my friend. I told my friend to send copies of the landlady bills and a copy of the monthly letter the landlady gets from the leasing company at the end of the month requesting rent payment. If this is not enough, then I told her to use the letter of notice from NYC housing department addressed to the landlady with information about her housing voucher.

I hope this works for her, and for any other in similar situations.
