Sad to say, I think this is typical. I think the city and state have been trying to crack down on MLs who don't follow the rules, but I think it still goes on to some extent.
You might have people in the manager's office who will sneak friends and family ahead of those legitimately on the list, or fail to contact them altogether.
Or maybe a grandson or niece will come forward to claim a relative's apartment.
But I think also it's just hard to estimate these things, and with Covid, apartments haven't been either turning over or empty apartments fixed up on schedule.
We were skipped over and needed the City Council president to intervene on our behalf. I have always thought that homophobia, or ageism played a part.
It was quite a battle to get in but we ultimately did.
Keep calling and asking what number they are up to.
Does anyone have any information about ML "Short Open Waiting Lists"? A friend of mine applied and was told it would be about a six month wait but it is way past that and no communication from the management despite many attempts to reach them. Just wondering if "Short" is just another ML joke.

ML is a long wait, could be years which is why when I was applying for affordable housing I also did ML and just forgot about them. By the time they approve me ill probably be in a coffin or no longer need/want the apartment.
If I knew then what I know now, I would have applied once I turned 21 and would of had a apartment by the time I was 30 instead of applying in my 30's and possible get accepted in my 50's
I think many people share your sentiments. I am not surprised that the wait lists don't move very much. Too bad that the government is no longer participating in a Mitchell Lama program. It is sorely needed.
