12/15 I received another email to go view the apartment and to submit a document to allow a credit check and request for my SSC.

12/17 I saw the apartment and submitted the requested documents.

On 12/28 & 01/06 I sent to follow up emails to check on the status of my application and to see if there was a timeline for an approximate move in date if select.

Yesterday 01/10 I received the following email. “We are currently reviewing applicants with lower log numbers. I have all your documents and once I reach your log I will reach back out to you for your next step.there is not a timeframe at the moment; but we are processing applications.”

Is it normal for them to have you go view an apartment but they won’t tell you how many other people are ahead of you for that specific apartment? Do you guys think I’ll have a chance for the apartment. I am starting to worry because my current lease ends on 2/28 and the Specialist isn’t giving me any indication of what my chances are.
Yes, I went through a VERY similar process with Athena North apartments. They sent mulitple emails asking for documents, I completed and sent them the next day as they already gave a very short submission deadline. Once I completed everyhting including a detailed explanation of all deposits on my bank statement, signature for credit check, etc., they went silent. After about 2 weeks, I reached out and was told that applications were being processed based on log number and I had numerous applicants with lower log numbers before me.

After a month or so, I received an email that I was going to be waitlisted as all apartments were accounted for. It literally was a waste of time and I regret submitting such sensitive information for no reason.

I had this experience with a regular lottery apartment - they called me in to submit docs, everything, etc. and then 2 weeks later told me they had filled all the spots.

That being said - I just got my affordable apartment - and it was from an ad that was on HDC Now Renting. The process was the exact same as all the other lottery processes - lots of documents being submitted, etc. I think there is a slightly higher chance with HDC Now Renting apartments because you are applying to be put directly on a waiting list and I think less people know about the process.

Crossing my fingers that it works out for you!

Thank you for responding with your experience. How did you find the HDC Now Renting. Is it the same link I posted in my original post?

Yes - it's that link! I had just been googling affordable housing and came across it!

I ended up in my apartment through a re-rental but at the time I did not realize it was a re-rental. I had applied to s many that I was not keeping up with it all and that year my income had changed so a lot of what was calling me in was all stuff that I was no longer meeting the income for, I was finding.
I went in for an interview, handed in my documents, sent in everything that was requested of me and then waited. I limited my self to 1 follow up call once every 2 weeks on the 3rd week I was told someone else ahead of me had been selected. I was sad really friggin sad but nothing I cold do about that. I went on my not so merry way. I did reach out to the agent to let me know if anything else came up and lo and behold something did it was smaller and more expensive than I had hoped for but it was mine and at that time I desperately needed a place of my own. I met with her redid the paperwork BS, and was approved. I was surprised though becasue I had to ask to see the unit. It was a studio, but it was mine and I signed away and moved in and I am still here. Not sure if this is really a re-rental success story except for the fact the apartment was a re-rental and I was on the list so..
