The question is very challenging. Most perhaps all the replies you will get will not be from someone in authority. Review handbook and other materials. There are sections about DV.

Consult with your City Councilor, and Social Worker if you have one. What is posted here on this issue has to be discounted until you can confirm what the policy is with a City employee or agent or such like.

At this time, can you reliably still get USPS mail from you permanent address? This might matter if important and relevant correspondence still goes there.

Are you allowed to accept USPS mail at the shelter?

You or your advocate likely needs to reach a person in authority at HPD. HPD might be able to keep your original CB, perhaps.

You might run into conflict if you Housing Connect account online lists your old address, and then you return paperwork with the shelter address.

If you are never going to return to your previous address it might be that there is a time limit how long HPD will recognize it as your home address.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for this advice. I got embarrassed mentioning my situation and tried deleting but didn't know how. I'm glad I didn't. Thank you!

You should not be embarrassed, this forum is for everyone to seek advice & answer, I believe that was the initial intention on why this forum created. Unfortunately some people misused it by attacking each other especially on which AMI is more entitled than others. This forum should've been the place to support each other because in the end of the day everyone aims to one thing... To seek the better quality of life!

I wish you good luck in this housing lottery opportunity, keep on applying, & don't give up!!!

See if you can locate your City Councillor here. It might take more than one attempt but likely the first office you contact will help you find the correct office.

Yes. When you put your current address as a shelter, you have the option to put in your last permanent address. I got pulled for CB with last permanent address and there was some issues initially bc of the residency letter but management was nice enough to still process me. Unfortunately the CB units got filled so we're on a waitlist now but I think at the end of the day it's up to the company who selects your application and how they decide to move forward with you. It might help if you have other documents stating last permanent address like your taxes or ID or something like that

Thank you for replying. That's interesting, so just to confirm your last permeant address can count as CB preference when in a shelter?
