Hello! I have a question about Household Composition/eligibility, wondering if anybody has any ideas. I applied to HousingConnect with my partner as one household, we previously lived together but have been living separately for a few months, considering breaking up and want to live separately. I got a log number but haven't been contacted yet for a property that has 1-bedroom/studio units I would qualify with my income if I was alone. Does anybody know if its possible to switch my application to individual if contacted to submit documents ( to be clear: post-log assignment, pre-contact)? Reading the sections of the Marketing Handbook, "5-2 Qualification as Household" and "5-3 Changes to an Application While Applicant is in Process for a Unit". I'm not sure according to qualification as a household, that sure we properly qualify as a household right now (living separately, not married)? Would I just be disqualified entirely, or considered for different income/household size? Does it matter if we've officially broken up? Thanks

I don’t understand what you mean by saying you have a log number but haven’t been contacted yet for a property that has 1 bedroom/studio units you would qualify for if you were alone.

If you were contacted to submit documents for this building, why would you want to change your household size to one if you won’t qualify on your own?

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do.

If you update your household information on HC before being contacted for documents, your application for that building will be updated to reflect the changes. So, if you remove the partner, your household will now be 1 and only your income will be listed. If the building in question reaches your log number, they will look at your profile, now as 1 person with a single income, and if you appear to qualify for any units they have available, they will contact you for documents.

Linamonroll, here is what the handbook states related to that? "Applicants have the ability to update their Housing Connect profile at any time to reflect their current circumstances. Applicants are evaluated based on the information in their profile when their log number appears on a batch, at which time a “snapshot” of their profile is taken and used as the application for that lottery. Once a snapshot is taken, information cannot be changed, and an initial eligibility determination is made." It's still a bit unclear to me when this 'snapshot' occurs, but I assume shortly after the log is generated?

@macnyc2003 - I would qualify alone is what I'm saying

"when their log number appears on a batch"-- That means when they reach your log number, not right after logs are generated. The "snapshot" is taken when they reach your number and if you appear to qualify, they contact you. Any updates before they contact you will change the info for that building, any changes made to the profile after you are contacted (ie. when the snapshot is taken), will not change for that building but will change for all others that have not contacted you yet, even if you already have a log.

Just thinking out loud. From what you have told us, it’s very hard to know if this is an issue because you might be nearer/further from getting a unit than you think.

Do the two of you qualify for any preferences, such as Community Board? How many units in the lottery do you qualify for?

Perhaps, the path of least resistance is to leave well-enough alone until a decision is made on whether you two get a unit or not. If you do, take the unit as a couple then disolved the relationship after the lease is signed.
